Beginning, from the Anglish overbringing of the Holy Book.

Head 1[]

  1. In the beginning, God made heaven and earth,
  2. And the earth was wrecked and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, the wind of God was borne on the waters.
  3. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
  4. And God saw the light, and that it was good. And God sundered the light from the dark.
  5. And God called the light Day, and the dark He called Night. And evening and morning were the first day.
  6. And God said, "Let there be a beaten-welkin in the midst of the waters, and cleave the waters from the waters."
  7. And God made the welkin, and cleft the waters, which were under the welkin from the waters above the welkin; and it was so.
  8. And God called the welkin Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the twoth day.
  9. And God said, "Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one stead, and let the dry land come forth"; and it was so.
  10. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas; and God saw that it was good.
  11. And God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the wort bearing seed and the ovest-tree yielding ovest after its kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth"; and it was so.
  12. And the earth brought forth grass, and wort bearing seed after its kind, and the tree yielding ovest, whose seed was in itself, after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
  13. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
  14. And God said, "Let there be lights in the stronghold of the heavens to cleave the day from the night; and let them be for markers, and for the times of year, and for days, and years;
  15. And let them be lights in the stronghold of the heavens to give light upon the earth"; and it was so.
  16. And God made two great lights; the greater light to have lordship over the day, and the lesser light to have lordship over the night; He made the stars also.
  17. And God set them in the stronghold of the heavens to give light upon the earth,
  18. And to have lordship over the day and over the night, and to cleave the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.
  19. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
  20. And God said, "Let the waters bring forth a richness of living wights, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open stronghold of heaven."
  21. And God created great whales, and every living wight that stirs, which the waters brought forth richly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
  22. And God blessed them, saying, "Beget offspring, and become manifold and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl become manifold in the earth."
  23. And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
  24. And God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living wight after its kind, livestock, and creeping thing, and wight of the earth after its kind"; and it was so.
  25. And God made the wight of the earth after its kind, and livestock after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
  26. And God said, "Let Us make man in Our shape, after Our likeness; and let them have lordship over the fish of the sea, and over the fowls of the lift, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
  27. So God made man in His own likeness, in the likeness of God He made him; He made them man and woman.
  28. And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Beget offspring, and become manifold, and fill the earth anew, and quell it; and have lordship over the fish of the sea, and over the fowls of the lift, and over every living thing that stirs upon the earth.
  29. And God said, "Behold, I have given you every wort bearing seed, which is upon all the earth, and every tree, in which is the ovest of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.
  30. And to every wight of the earth, and to every fowl of the lift, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green wort for food"; and it was so.
  31. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Head 2[]

  1. Thus God made the heavens and the earth and all the things in them were fully done.
  2. And on the seventh day God came to the end of his work; and on the seventh day he rested from all the work which he had done.
  3. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy; for on that day he rested from all the work which he made and done.
  4. This is the tale of the heavens and earth when they were made on the day that God made the earth and the heavens,
  5. And on the day when God made the heavens and earth there were no worts or weeds of the fields on the earth and no grass had risen up, for God had not yet sent rain to fall onto the earth and there was no man to till the ground.
  6. And a mist sprung from the ground and watered the sheath of the earth.
  7. Then God made man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
  8. Then God sowed a grove in the east, in Eden, where He put the man that He had made.
  9. And out of the ground God made every tree that is fair of sight and good for food; and in the middle of the grove he set the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
  10. Now there was a rindle flowing out of Eden to water the grove, and from it welled the headwaters of four others.
  11. The name of the first stream is Phison; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
  12. And the gold of that land is good. Myrrh and handsome stones are there also.
  13. The name of the next or other stream is Gehon; it winds throughout the land of Cush.
  14. The name of the third stream is the Tigris; it flows east towards Assyria. The fourth stream is the Euphrates.
  15. Then God took the man that he had made and put him into Eden's grove, to work it and ward it.
  16. And God gave man a behest, saying, "Of all the trees in the grove you may freely eat;
  17. "But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat, for on the day that you eat from it you may well die."
  18. And God said, "It is not good that man should live alone: I will make a helper fit for him."
  19. Out of the ground God made all the beings of the field and wilderness, every winged bird flying above the earth, and brought them to Adam to see what he would name them. And whatever Adam called each living being that was what its name became.
  20. And Adam gave names to all the livestock, to the winged bird flying above the earth, and to every wight of the field and wilderness. But for Adam no fit helper was yet found for him.
  21. And God made Adam fall into a deep sleep and in his sleep, He took out one of his ribs and filled the spot with flesh.
  22. Then God shaped into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.
  23. And Adam said: "This is now the bone of my bones and the flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, for she was taken out of Man."
  24. On this ground, therefore, a man will leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.
  25. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Head 3[]

  1. Now the snake had know-how and was crafty, more so than any other wight in the wild. One day he asked the woman, "Did God indeed say that you must not eat any ovest which the trees in the grove bring forth?"
  2. And the woman answered, " We may eat from the ovest that the trees in the grove bring forth;
  3. but of the ovest of the tree which is in the middle of the grove, God has said, "Do not eat of it, nor take it in your hands or you will die."
  4. You will not die", said the snake to the woman.
  5. The snake told the woman, "God knows that as soon as you eat of it, you will know good from evil and be all-knowing like God."
  6. Then the woman saw that the tree's yield was good for food, fair of sight and spanning to gain wisdom. So she took some of it and ate it, and gave some to her husband who also ate it.
  7. Then suddenly they became aware that they were naked, and they wove leaves together to make clothes to hide their shame.
  8. And the man and his wife heard the sound of God walking through the green-sward in the cool of the day; and they hid themselves among the trees; away from the sight of God.
  9. And God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"
  10. So he answered, "I heard the sound of You walking in the green-sward and I was full of fear for I was bare, and I hid myself."
  11. And God said, "Who told you you were bare? Have you eaten from the tree I told you not to eat from?"
  12. Then the man said, " The woman whom You gave me as a mate, she gave me apple of the tree, and I ate it."
  13. Then God said to the woman, "What have you done?" The woman answered, "The snake outwitted me and I ate some of that apple."
  14. God said to the snake, " For what you have done you will be cursed more than any any other wight of the field or the wild. And you will slink on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life"
  15. You and the woman will hate each other; your offspring and her offspring will always be foes. Her offspring will strike your offspring on the head; your offspring will bite her offspring on the heel."
  16. To the woman He said, "I will greatly worsen the ordeal of your childbirth, and in bearing your children your body will hurt deeply. Yet your longing and craving will be for your husband and he will be lord over you."
  17. Speaking to Adam He said, " As you have taken the heed of your wife and have eaten from the tree I told you not to eat from, cursed is the ground you are upon. You will work hard for food: seeding, tilling and harvesting from dawn to dusk all the days of your life.
  18. And the ground will bear thistles and thorns for you, and you shall eat weeds and worts of the field."
  19. By the sweat of your brow you will gather the food you eat until you go back to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are, and dust you will be again."
  20. And Adam called his wife Eve, for she was the mother of all who have life.
  21. Also God made clothes out of skins for Adam and Eve to wear.
  22. Then God said, " Since man has become like one of Us, knowing all from good to evil, and from blessing to bane, he is forbidden to reach out from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."-
  23. therefore God sent Adam out of the grove of Eden, to work and till the ground he had been made out of."
  24. So He drove them out, and he put on the east side of the grove of Eden winged beings, and a fiery sword whirling every way to block the way to the tree of life.

Head 4[]

  1. Now Adam made love to his wife Eve; and she became with child and gave birth to Cain and said, “With the Lord’s help I have had a son.”
  2. She later gave birth to another son Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, while Cain tilled the ground.
  3. In time the day came when Cain brought some ovets of the earth as a gift to the Lord.
  4. And Abel also brought an offering. He killed the first born lamb from one of his sheep and set it before the Lord, The Lord was gladdened by Abel’s offering and looked upon him with warmth and kindness,
  5. but upon Cain and his offering he looked unworthily. And Cain was wrathful and his neb was downcast.
  6. So the Lord said unto Cain. “Why are you wrathful and brow-fallen?
  7. If you do well, will not worth and good name be bestowed on you? But if you do not do well, sin is waiting at the door, wishing to hold lordship over you, do not let it grab hold of you.”
  8. Now Cain talked with his brother; and it happened that one day, when they were in the field, Cain struck Abel and killed him.
  9. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he said, “I don’t know: Am I my brother’s keeper?”
  10. And He said, “What have you done? Listen! The stim of your brother’s blood calls out to Me from under the ground.
  11. “So now ill and harm will befall you, and you are casted out from this ground, which has open its mouth to your brother‘s blood shed by your hand.
  12. “When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its crops to you. You will be forever an outcast; harried and homeless, a wanderer upon the earth.”
  13. And Cain said to the Lord, “The wite that you wrought upon me is more than I can bear!
  14. “Truly You have driven me out this day from this land, and I shall be hidden from your being; I will be a restless wanderer upon the earth, and whoever finds me will try to harm me.”
  15. And the Lord said to him, ”No, for anyone who kills you or yours afterbears will thole gainback seven times over. And the Lord put a mark on Cain to warn anyone who might try to harm or kill him.
  16. Then Cain went from the ken of the Lord and wandered in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
  17. And Cain and his wife made love, and she became with child and gave birth to Enoch. And, at that time, Cain was building a town and he called the town after the name of his son --Enoch.
  18. And Enoch had a son Irad: and Irad became the father of Mehujael: and Mehujael became the father of Lamech.
  19. Then Lamech wed two women, Adah and Zillah.
  20. And Adah gave birth to Jabal. He was the father all those who live in dwellings made from skins and herd livestock.
  21. His Brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all gleeman: the singers of songs, the pluckers of strings and the bowers of fiddles.
  22. And as for Zillah, she gave birth to Tubalcain, the father of all smiths: the blacksmith, the brownsmith, and the brightsmith. Tubalcain’s sister was Naamah.
  23. Then Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah listen to what I say. I have killed a man for wounding me, and a youth for striking me.
  24. “If seven lives are to be taken for the life of Cain, seventy will be taken for mine.”
  25. And Adam and his wife made love again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth. “For God, she said, has given me another son in stead of Abel, whom Cain killed.”
  26. And as for Seth, he had a son, and gave him the name of Enosh. At the time when men first began to call upon the name of the Lord in worship.

Head 5[]

  1. This is the book of the offspring of Adam, the first man. In the day that God made man, He made him in his own likeness.
  2. He made them man and woman, and blessed and called them Mankind in the day they were made.
  3. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years and had a son like himself, after his look, and named him Seth.
  4. After he had Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he fathered sons and daughters.
  5. So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years and he died.
  6. Seth lived one hundred and five years, and he had Enosh.
  7. After he had Enosh, Seth lived eight hundred and five years and had sons and daughters.
  8. So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.
  9. Enosh lived ninety years, and had Canaan.
  10. And he had Canaan, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and had sons and daughters.
  11. So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died.
  12. Cainan lived seventy years, and he had Mahalaleel.
  13. After he had Mahalaleel, Cainan eight hundred and forty years, and sons and daughters.
  14. So all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.
  15. Mahalaleel lived sixty-five years, and had Jared.
  16. After he had Jared, Mahalaleel lived eight hundred and thirty years, and had sons and daughters.
  17. So all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred and ninety- five years; and he died.
  18. Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and had Enoch.
  19. After he had Enoch, Jared lived eight hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
  20. So all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years; and he died.
  21. Enoch lived sixty-five years, and had Methuselah.
  22. After he had Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters.
  23. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty- five years.
  24. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
  25. Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty years, and had Lamech.
  26. After he had Lamech, Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and had sons and daughters.
  27. So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty- nine years, and he died
  28. Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and had a son.
  29. And he called his name Noah, saying, "This one will give us rest from the hard toil needed to make a living on this ground which the Lord has cursed."
  30. After he had Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and fifty- nine years, and had sons and daughters.
  31. So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.
  32. And Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah had Shem, Ham and Japeth.

Head 6[]

  1. And it came to pass, when men began to become many on the earth, and daughters were born to them.
  2. And the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair; and they took any they chose as wives for themselves.
  3. And God said, "My breath shall not be in man forever, for he is only flesh; so the days of his life will be one hundred and twenty years."
  4. These were big men of great strength on the earth in those days; and after that, when the sons of God knew the daughters of men, they bore children; these were the great men of the days of old, men of great name.
  5. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that all the thoughts of his heart were only evil.
  6. And God was sorry that He had made man and put him on earth, and in His heart deep was the sorrow.
  7. Then God said, "I will wipe off from the earth man, whom I made, together with the wights, things that creep, and birds and fowls of the sky— for I sorrow for having made them."
  8. But Noah found forgiveness in the eyes of the Lord.
  9. These are the lifespans of Noah‘s kin. Noah was an upright man and without sin in his time: he walked in the ways of God.
  10. And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
  11. And the earth was evil in God's eyes, filled with wrath and bloody deeds
  12. And God looking down on the earth, saw that the ways of man had become evil and sinful.
  13. And God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all folk, for the earth is full of their wrongdoings
  14. "Make for yourself an ark with pens, stalls and nests in it, and overlay it with pitch inside and out.
  15. And this is the way you are to make it: it is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.
  16. You are to put a window in the ark, 18 inches from the roof, and a door in the side of it, and you are to make with a lower, middle and upper floors.
  17. And I will send a great floodwater onto the earth to wash away all life. Every being that has the breath of life in it; and everything that is on the earth shall die.
  18. But with you I will make a troth; and you will come into the ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.
  19. And you will take with you into the ark two of every kind of living thing, and keep them free from harm; they will be in kind, he and she
  20. Two of every kind of bird, fowl, wight and every kind of creeping thing which goes on the ground you will take with you that they may be kept alive.
  21. And you will stock every kind of food for yourself and them.
  22. And all these things Noah did; as God said, so he did.

Head 7[]

  1. And the Lord said to Noah go into the ark, you and all your offspring, for you alone, from among all the folk on earth, I have found to be upright in this time.
  2. Of every clean living thing you will take, by seven, a buck and a doe, boar and a sow and so on; and of those which are not clean, two, the he and his mate;
  3. And of every kind of bird of flight take, by seven, a cock and a hen, so that their offspring may still be living again over the whole of the earth.
  4. For after seven days I will send rain upon the earth for forty days and forty nights, to put an end to every living thing which I have made over the whole of the earth
  5. And Noah did everything which the Lord said he was to do.
  6. And Noah was six hundred years old when the waters came flowing over all the earth.
  7. And Noah, with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives, went into the ark for fear of the flooding of the waters.
  8. Of clean wights, and of wights which are not clean, and of birds and fowl, and of everything which goes on the earth,
  9. Of kind by two, bull and cow, buck and doe, ram and ewe and so on, they went into the ark with Noah, as God had said.
  10. And after the seven days, the waters started flooding over all the earth.
  11. In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, all the springs of the great deep came bursting through, and the windows of heaven were open;
  12. And rain came down on the earth for forty days and forty nights.
  13. On the same day Noah, with Shem, Ham, and Japheth, his sons, and his wife and his sons' wives, went into the ark;
  14. And with them, every kind of living thing and every kind of thing which goes on the earth, and every kind of bird.
  15. They went with Noah into the ark, two by two of all flesh in which is the breath of life.
  16. Every kind of living thing went in, as God had said, and the door of the ark was shut by the Lord.
  17. And for forty days the waters were over all the earth; and the waters rose so that the ark was lifted up high above the ground.
  18. And the waters rose above everything and the flood deepened on the earth, and the ark was resting on the top of the waters.
  19. And the floodwaters rose above everything on the earth; and all the high hills under heaven were underwater.
  20. The floodwaters rose more than twenty feet higher, till all fells were underwater.
  21. And death came to every living thing on the earth, birds, livestock and wildlife and everything which went on the earth, and every man.
  22. Everything on the dry land, in which was the breath of life, came to its end.
  23. Every living thing on the whole of the earth, man and woman; wights, tame and wild; all kinds of birds and anything that flies, and all things creeping upon the earth came to its end: only Noah and those who were with him in the ark, were kept from death.
  24. And the floodwaters were over the earth a hundred and fifty days.

Head 8[]

  1. And God did not forget Noah, and all the living things and the livestock which were with him in the ark: and God sent a wind over the earth, and the floodwaters started to fall.
  2. And the springs at the bottom of the seas and the floodgates of heaven were shut, and the rains stopped.
  3. And the floodwaters went slowly down from on the earth, and at the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters were all but gone.
  4. And on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to settle upon the fells of Ararat.
  5. And still the waters went on falling steadily, until on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the fells were seen.
  6. Then, at the end of forty days, through the open window of the ark which he had made,
  7. Noah sent out a raven, which went to and fro, and here and there, waiting for the flood waters to dry up from the land
  8. And then he sent a dove aloft, to see if the waters had gone down from the whole of the earth;
  9. But the dove saw no-where dry to roost, and came back to the ark, for the waters were still deep over all the earth; and Noah put out his hand, and took her into the ark.
  10. And after waiting another seven days, he sent the dove out again;
  11. And the dove came back at evening time, and in her mouth was an ele-leaf broken off: so Noah knew that the waters had gone down.
  12. And after seven days more, he sent the dove out again, but this time she did not come back to him.
  13. And in the six hundred and first year, on the first day of the first month, the waters had dried up on the earth: and Noah made an opening in the roof of the ark and saw at last that the earth was dry.
  14. And on the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was dry.
  15. And God said to Noah,
  16. Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons' wives.
  17. Bring with you every living thing that is with you, birds and livestock and everything which creeps on the earth, and hurries along the ground, so that they may have offspring and be many in number and spread throughout the earth.
  18. And Noah went out with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives;
  19. And all wildlife, all livestock, every bird and fowl and every living thing of every kind which creeps on the earth, came out of the ark, one kind after another.
  20. And Noah built an altar to the Lord, and he choose clean wights and birds from every kind and offered them as burnt offerings on the altar.
  21. And when the soothing smell came to the Lord, he said in his heart, I will never again put a curse on the earth, for though the thoughts of man are evil even from the time of his youth; never again will I bring death to all living things as I have done.
  22. While the earth goes on, seed time and the time of reaping and harvest, cold and hot, summer and winter, day and night, will not come to an end.

Head 9[]

  1. And God gave his blessing to Noah and his sons, and said, have many children, so that they will spread throughout the earth and make it full.
  2. And the fear of you will be strong in every wight of the earth and every bird of the sky; everything which creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, will be given into your hands.
  3. Every living thing will be food for you; I give them all to you as before I gave to you all worts
  4. But you must not eat meat that still has blood in it, for blood gives life.
  5. And for your life I take a reckoning; from every living thing I will take it, and from every man will I take it, for anyone who takes another man's life, that man's life will be taken.
  6. Whoever takes a man's life, by man will his life be taken; because God made man in his likeness.
  7. And now, you and your offspring have many children, so that man will grow more manifold and live everywhere on earth.
  8. And God spoke to Noah and to his sons, saying:
  9. I will now make my troth with you and with your offspring after you,
  10. And with every living thing that was with you: the birds, the livestock, the tame and wild life of the earth, all those that came out of the ark with you.
  11. And I will make my troth with you; never again will the waters of a flood kill all living things; never again will the waters of a flood lay waste to the earth.
  12. And God said, This is the token of the troth which I make between me and you and every living thing around you, and everyone living after you:
  13. I will put my rainbow in the sky and it will be a token of the troth between me and all on the earth.
  14. And whenever I bring clouds over the earth, the rainbow will be seen in the sky
  15. And I will keep in mind the troth between me and you and every living thing; and never again will there be a great flood to wipe out all life on earth.
  16. And whenever the rainbow will be in the sky, and I see it, I will keep in mind the everlasting troth between God and every living thing on the earth.
  17. And God said to Noah, this is the token of the troth which I have made between me and all living things on the earth.
  18. And the sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and Ham is the father of Canaan.
  19. These three were the sons of Noah and from them all men and women sprang.
  20. In those days Noah became a tiller of the ground and he planted wineberry
  21. And he drank of the wine and was overcome by it; and he became unclothed in his shelter.
  22. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father unclothed, and told his two brothers outside.
  23. And Shem and Japheth took clothing and putting it on their backs went in looking the other way and put it over their father so that they might not see him unclothed.
  24. And, awaking from his hangover, Noah saw what his youngest son had done to him, and he said,
  25. Cursed be Canaan; let him be the lowest bondman of bondmen to his brothers and their kindred.
  26. And he also said, blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem; let Canaan be his thrall.
  27. May God make Japheth great, and let him dwell in the house of Shem, and let Canaan be his thrall.
  28. And Noah went on living three hundred and fifty years after the great flood;
  29. All the years of his life were nine hundred and fifty: and he came to his end.

Head 10[]

  1. Now this is the tale of the offspring of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and the sons which they had after the great flood
  2. The sons of Japheth: Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras.
  3. And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz and Riphath and Togarmah.
  4. And the sons of Javan: Elishah and Tarshish, the Kittim and the Dodanim.
  5. From these seafaring kindreds who spread throughout the world came the folkdoms of the earth, each speaking its own tongue.
  6. And the sons of Ham: Cush and Mizraim and Put and Canaan.
  7. And the sons of Cush: Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
  8. And Cush was the forefather of Nimrod, who was the first of the great men of the earth.
  9. He was a mighty hunter, so that there is a saying, like Nimrod, a mighty hunter.
  10. And at first, his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
  11. From that land he went out into Assyria, building Nineveh with its wide thorough-fares and Calah,
  12. And Resen between Nineveh and Calah, which is a great town.
  13. And Mizraim was the forefather of the Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim and Naphtuhim;
  14. And Pathrusim and Casluhim and Caphtorim, from whom came the men of Philista.
  15. And Canaan was the forefather of Zidon, who was his oldest son, and Heth,
  16. And the Jebus and the Amors and the Girgash,
  17. And the Hives and the Arks and the Sines,
  18. And the Arvads and the Zemars and the Hamaths; afterwards that the kindreds of the Canaans spread abroad, far and wide, here and there;
  19. Their landlines stretching from Zidon to Gaza, as far south as Gerar; and to Lasha, all the way to Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim.
  20. All these, with their unsame kindreds, tongues, lands, and folkdoms, are the offspring of Ham.
  21. And Shem, the older brother of Japheth, the forefather of the children of Eber, also had other sons .
  22. These are the sons of Shem: Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram.
  23. And the sons of Aram were: Uz and Hul and Gether and Mash.
  24. And Arpachshad became the father of Shelah; and Shelah became the father of Eber.
  25. And Eber had two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his time the kindreds of the earth no longer lived near one another; and his brother's name was Joktan.
  26. And Joktan was the father of Almodad and Sheleph and Hazarmaveth and Jerah
  27. And Hadoram and Uzal and Diklah
  28. And Obal and Abimael and Sheba
  29. Ophir and Havilah and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.
  30. And their settlings stretched from Mesha, towards Sephar, the fells of the east.
  31. These, with their kindreds and their tongues and their lands and their folkdoms, are the offspring of Shem.
  32. These are the kindreds of the sons of Noah, by their births, and their folkdoms. From these came all the folkdoms which spread out over all the earth after the great flood.

Head 11[]

  1. Now all the world was of one tung and one speech.
  2. As they shrithed eastward, they found a heath in the land of Shinar, and they settled there.
  3. Then they said to one another, “Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had pitch for wallstone.
  4. And they said, “Come, let's build ourselves a town, and a tower whose top stretches 'till heaven; let's make a name for ourselves, so we won't be scattered over all the world.”
  5. And YHWH came down so He could see the chester and the tower which the seeds of Adam were building.
  6. And YHWH said, “Huh! This is one folk with one tung, and this is only what they begin to do; now nothing that they want to do will be too hard for them.
  7. Come on, let's go down and there todeal their tung, so they won't understand one another’s speech.”
  8. So YHWH scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the chester.
  9. So they named the stow, Babel, for there YHWH todealt the tung of all the world; and from there YHWH todealt them over all the earth.
  10. This is the kindred of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old, and had Arphaxad two years after the flood.
  11. After he had Arphaxad, Shem lived five hundred years, and had sons and daughters.
  12. Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and had Salah.
  13. After he had Salah, Arphaxad lived four hundred and three years, and had sons and daughters.
  14. Salah lived thirty years, and had Eber.
  15. After he had Eber, Salah lived four hundred and three years, and had sons and daughters.
  16. Eber lived thirty-four years, and had Peleg.
  17. After he had Peleg, Eber lived four hundred and thirty years, and had sons and daughters.
  18. Peleg lived thirty years, and had Reu.
  19. After he had Reu, Peleg lived two hundred and nine years, and had sons and daughters.
  20. Reu lived thirty-two years, and had Serug.
  21. After he had Serug, Reu lived two hundred and seven years, and had sons and daughters.
  22. Serug lived thirty years, and had Nahor.
  23. After he had Nahor, Serug lived two hundred years, and had sons and daughters.
  24. Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and had Terah.
  25. After he had Terah, Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years, and had sons and daughters.
  26. Now Terah lived seventy years, and had Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
  27. This is the kindred of Terah: Terah had Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran had Lot.
  28. And Haran died before his father, Terah, in his homeland, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
  29. Then Abram and Nahor wived up: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, Haran's daughter, and her sister was called Iscah.
  30. But Sarai was unteaming and childless.
  31. And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and led them out of Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there.
  32. So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.

Head 12[]

  1. Then YHWH said to Abram, “Get out of your country, from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.
  2. I will make you a great leed; I will bless you and make your name great so that you will be a blessing.
  3. I will bless those who bless you, and I will awerry those who curse you; and in you all the maithes of the earth shall be blessed.”
  4. So Abram outfared as YHWH had bidden him, and Lot fared with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he outfared from Haran.
  5. Then Abram took Sarai, his wife, and Lot, his nephew, and all their goods that they had gathered, and the souls whom they had gotten in Haran, and they outfared to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,
  6. Abram went farther into the land till he came unto a stead called Shechem, as far as the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land.
  7. Then YHWH sweetled to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” And there he built a waybed to YHWH, who had atewed to him.
  8. And he went from there to the hill east of Bethel, and he pitched his hut with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built a waybed to YHWH and called on the Name of YHWH.
  9. So Abram fared, going on still toward the South to the Negev.
  10. Now there was a great hunger in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to stay there far a while, since the hunger was swithe in the land.
  11. And when he was about to go into Egypt, that he said to Sarai, his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a sheenful woman.
  12. and when the Egypters see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife;’ and they will kill me, but they will let you live.
  13. Say you are my sister, so it can be alright with me for your sake, and so I can live by your inthing.”
  14. When Abram went into Egypt, the Egypters saw the woman, that she was sheenful.
  15. Pharaoh's eldermen also saw her and told Pharaoh about her. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house.
  16. He undfanged Abram for her sake. He had sheep, oxen, he-asses, he and she thaners, she-asses, and wasteland-horses.
  17. But YHWH beswang Pharaoh and his house with great blightdoms for Sarai, Abram’s wife.
  18. And Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
  19. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife; take her and go your way.”
  20. So Pharaoh bebade his men about him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.

Head 13[]

  1. So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negev.
  2. Now Abram was sore rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
  3. He fared on, bit by bit, from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the stow where his hut had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
  4. to the stow where he had made a glowstead before; and there Abram worshipped YHWH.
  5. Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and huts,
  6. so that the land could not bear both of them living together; for their things were so great that they could not live together,
  7. and there werthed a strife between the herders of Abram's livestock and the herders of Lot's livestock. At that time the Canaanlings and the Perizzlings lived in the land.
  8. Then Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herders and my herders; for we are kindred.
  9. Isn't the whole land before you? Fare from me. If you go to the left, then I will go to the right; or if you go to the right, then I will go to the left."
  10. Lot looked about him, and saw that the land of the Jordan was merry with water, like Nerxnawong, like the land of Egypt, coming up to Zoar, before YHWH had towended Sodom and Gomorrah.
  11. Then Lot chose for himself all the land with the Jordan, and fared eastward; and so they split from each other.
  12. Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the towns near the Jordan and took his hut as far as Sodom.
  13. Now the folks of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against YHWH.
  14. The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had split from him, "Lift up your eyes now, and look from the stow where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward:
  15. all this land that you see I will give to you and to your seed forever.
  16. I will make your offspring as manifold as the dust of the earth; so that if one can arime the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be arimed.
  17. Get up and go through the length and the breadth of the land, for to you will I give it."
  18. So Abram took his hut, and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, that are at Hebron; and there he built a glowstead to YHWH.

Head 14[]

  1. And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Thedes;
  2. That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
  3. All these had banded together in the dale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
  4. Twelve years they did bestead Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rose up.
  5. And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,
  6. And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El-paran, which is by the wilderness.
  7. And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the counttry of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezon-tamar.
  8. And there went out the king of Sodoom, and the king of Gommorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they clashed with them in the dale of Siddim;
  9. With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of Thedes, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.
  10. And the vale of Siddim was full of slimmepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that were left fled to the high hills.
  11. And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their foodstuffs, and went their way.
  12. And they took Lot, Abram's bother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and they left.
  13. And there came one that had gotten away, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were banded together with Abram.
  14. And when Abram heard that his brother was taken and bound, he gave weapons to his yeomen, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and put them to flight, even unto Dan.
  15. And he sundered himself against them, he and his yeomen, by night, and smote them, and put them to flight even unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
  16. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the folk.
  17. And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after he came back from the smiting of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, and the dale of Shaveh, which is the king's dale.
  18. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the Elder of the Most High God.
  19. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, overlord of heaven and earth:
  20. And blessed be the Most High God, which hath borne thy foes into the hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
  21. And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the folk, and take the goods to thyself.
  22. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up mine hand unto YHWH, the Most High God, overlord of heaven and earth,
  23. That I will not take from a thread even to a shoestring, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich.
  24. Save only that which the youths have eaten, and the share of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share.
