Cædmon was an Angle-Saxish herdsman, songster and munc.

We know of his life only from Bede's Church Eretide of the English Folk, who says that he dreamt of being told to sing anent 'the beginning of all things'. Straight away he wrote a short song to god, the maker of heaven and earth.

Though he spoke English, his name is most likely Welsh.
