Italy, or Valand is a land in southern Europe, which is beset on three sides by water, and on the other, northern side, by the Alps. There are also two great ilands in Italy: Sardinia to the west, and Sicily to the south. The headtown of the land is Rome.

About 58,000,000 folk live in Italy, and most speak Italian, which is a daughter tongue of Latin.

The land is cleft into 20 shires, of which five can make their own laws. All but one of the shires is further cleft in ridings, which are further cleft into thorpes, towns and boroughs.
