Morocco is a land in northwestern Africa. It has a long shoreline on the Atlantic sea and on the Middlearth sea, the two seas meet at Gibraltar sound. Morocco is beset by Algeria in the east and Mauritania to the south. Morocco owns the fought-about territory of Western Sahara.
The Atlas fells run the length of the land, with most folk living near the shore west and north of the fells. To the south lies the Sahara dryland.
About 33,000,000 folk live in Morocco, most of whom speak the indigenous Berber tongue, a share speaks the Moroccan flavor of the Arab tongue. The headtown is now Rabat, though formerly it was Marrakesh whence the name "Morocco" came into the English tongue. The word "Morocco" came from "Marrakesh" which also came from the Berber two-word "Mur Akush" meaning "land of god".
The biggest town of Morocco is Casablanca, with 2,900,000 indwellers.
Eretide
Man has lived in Morocco since at least 8000 BCE, a time when the Maghreb was less dryer than it is today.
