The Rother is an evenhooved suckledeer ox that has been behoused by man. It is also a withchewer, meaning it upretches its food back into its mouth after swallowing it, where it is again chewed and then swallowed once more. The maw of withchewers is split into four coves known as the wombmaw, the netmaw, the bookmaw, and the rennetmaw, the last being the true maw of the deer.
The buck of the erd is known as either the steer or the bull, hinging on whether the deer is gelt or not. The doe, meanwhile, is known as the cow and the young is known as the calf.
Being behoused, it is brooked in stour scores for many deeds such as yielding meat and milk, being of great weightiness for the wealthdom of many lands over the world.
