The discussions that were previously on this page have been removed, as this page is only for the discussion of the Headside and its appearance. The old discussions are stowed here: /Old Headside Talk. That page can be read, but not edited, so if you wish to discuss a certain topic, please begin a new page, or use the talk leaf of a relevant page. If it is just a general issue, the Moot'sThreshold is probably the best place. Thanks. Oswax 18:03, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Please do not post general discussion about Anglish here.

Name of main page Edit

'Headside' is obviously alike its Germanic equivalents, such as Ger. Hauptseite and Du. Hoofdpagina (without the pagina, which is Latin in origin), but its name unfortunately doesn't make any sense in English. (If this has been discussed before, please tell me, I don't mean to rehash something that has been talked about before.) Some of the more plausible names that can be used would be Head/Main Webstead, Headsheet, Main Sheet, at least in my opinion. If anyone has any other ideas, maybe those could be of use as well. I'm not necessarily against having Headside as a title page, but I think it is a bit vague to people who haven't been here before and are not familiar with other Germanic languages.) -Noimnotokay 02:11, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey, nice try. But obviously, we shouldn't be able to use the words like Edit, Create, account, log, user, exit, message, history, sign, post, signature, button.. right on! (all are from this particular page I'm writing this) either, since they are too, of Romance origin.

But hey, nice try. Guest 07:36, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, edit is, in fact, very similar to the OE word for edit: ádihtan. All we have to do is write it like this: adight, and it will be of English origin. Gott wisst Gott Wisst's talkpage 06:32, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Restructuring? Edit

Unlike other wikias, I like the unoffensive colour scheme and I love the fact that there is not the Sutton helmet one sees in every site dedicated to OE. However, I do think the layout could be improved for first time visitors. I think the 'new here?' banner needs to be made much more prominent for new readers and possibly merged with the first line of 'Knowledge' whose articles are written in everyday English to make it a welcome banner (how to edit and help can go at the bottom). Also Anglish and What is anglish? should be merged. As a new reader I did not see that section at all. Seasoned readers know where stuff is, so for them practicality is key and a bigger banner would not impact on that.

What do you folk think? I am happy to fix it, but I'd like permission to do so. 09:55, March 12, 2012 (UTC) (I was not logged in oddly... Squidonius 20:36, March 12, 2012 (UTC))

island should be ilandEdit

Many writings here have the word island in it.

Yet, the -s- was added to alike the word with isle, which is a Romance word. The -s- has never been outspoken in English. Forlike with Old English igland or egland, Old Saxon iegland, Old Norse eyland, Dutch/Afrikaans eiland, German Eiland, Icelandic eyja.

A more Anglish form would thus be iland, which is also the way the word is outspoken. 09:08, May 20, 2012 (UTC)

Hello, welcome to The Anglish Moot. I'm well aware that island should be spelt without the -s-, but we cannot make folk spell how we want them too, but can only show and let them choose. Oswax 21:33, May 21, 2012 (UTC)

English words only or Germanic words only?Edit

In more than one articals, I have found North Germanic loanwords such as "take", "die", etc. As the purpose of creating Anglish Moot was to experiment with the ability of the English speech to maintain linguistic purity, shouldn't the word choice be strictly English instead of just Germanic? 02:21, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

Well, one of the problems with the Anglish moot is the lack of a clear definition of Anglish: in methods or one of those there is a discussion of the three options (only fore-1066, only germanic, only not Latinate, which would allow plant, smorgasbord and karaoke respectively for byspell). In the yahoo group it is was discussed at length, but no consensus could be drawn, bar that the volunteer nature of the adighters made the suchness really variable and words keep being reinvented badly, to the point that discussions of cutoffs and purity are pedantic. mostly it seems that all words that are in Old English might be brooked? I think you may brook words that you feel right and wend any writing that you feel something wrong with.--山城上総 18:18, February 21, 2013 (UTC)

Understanding Anglish Edit

This entire website is not very accessible to newcomers, especially non-linguists.  When reading articles I often find Anglish words that I don't understand. Looking things up in the Wordbooks is tedious, and not all words are even listed there.  For example, I couldn't find the definition of 'by-leid' anywhere on this wiki, not even on the English By-leids page.  Also, I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to browse the Wordbooks and Wordlists since the instructions on how they are put together are written in Anglish.  Meta pages should really be written in English, or at least have versions in both English and New English, or else they aren't very useful. Jackk225 (talk) 19:05, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

Someone has attempted to enhance this wikia search facility by adding " Search this Wikia"  & "Search all of Wikia."  Unfortunately this has failed - can someone fix ?

Disregard the above: seems now to be working well. 06:40, February 18, 2015 (UTC)

Other matches Edit

Know ye a match of this goalwork in other tungs? Is there one for French? --Rottweiler (Woof? Ruff!) 11:47, October 27, 2015 (UTC)

I think it's only an English thing, since other tungs don't have nearly so much outlandish inflow. Zacwill16 (talk) 16:46, April 23, 2016 (UTC)

Changing shielded leafs Edit

How does one get the right to change shielded leafs? I'd like to change the leaf on Americksland, but I'm not nowen letted to. Zacwill16 (talk) 13:28, April 23, 2016 (UTC)

/Old Headside Talk Edit

The link to old discussions does not work. Either a new link needs to be made or the paragraph above updated. Cavallero (talk) 14:22, November 23, 2018 (UTC)
