Hi, I'm TimeMaster. I've been lurking here for a few months/years, but have beworked nothing until now (April 2018), but with my foot in the door now, I hope I will bework more. I've done a lot of work on other wikis - been on Wikia for nearly a tenyear now, mostly on makerly wikis, though more in the bygone than now.

SpellingEdit

Along with mending the wordstock of English, I'm also gripped by mending the spelling. My most loved layout now is the following. I'd love to hear all of your thoughts on this and how it could be bettered, so feel free to write your thoughts on my talk leaf. I take a liking to mostly nering layouts, where outspeakings are still mostly foretellsome by the reader, and that treat all the folktungs as well as can be done.

ClipolsEdit

Can be a hard andwork. I put forth that loudburden (stress) blives unspelled, as spelling seems to make truly ugly words (albeit mostly loanwords), with kinwords sundered from each other. Instead, a choosesome (optional) overstaff (accent) can be brooked to mark which wordbits (syllables) are burdened, in words with more than one wordbit. The twin letter layout blives and is made steady. A hard call is on how to mark long and short clipols (vowels): take the words pin, pine, pinner, piner. Today's layout is fair and unsaid e's seem mostly wordloresome (etymological), but other ways could be pin, pien, pinner, piener (English's layout for long e's, some Dutch), pin, pien, pinner, piner (some Dutch), pinn, pin, pinner, piner (Rhinish and many other Theedish tungs, but weak with endings beginning with midclicks like -ness), or pin, pien, piner, piener (eath to learn, but not brooked by other tungs it seems). Words with two or more staffs before the unsaid e like waste would become for byspel waest, for if the word "wast" lived, wasting and wast[e]ing could not be told apart. I believe undoing the great clipol shift in spelling would be a mistake, sundering "trisyllabic laxing" twins (albeit mostly, but not only, loanwords) like nation/national, serene/serenity, divine/divinity, goose/gosling, cone/conical, south/southern.

  • Innermost short clipols
    • bat: a
    • bet: e
    • bit: i
    • bot: o
    • but: u
  • Innermost long clipols
    • bait: a, ai/ay or ae
    • beet: e, ee
    • bite: i, ie
    • boat: o, oe
    • bout: u, ue (afterbear of Old English long u comes back)
  • Other clipols
    • father: aa
    • bought: au/aw
    • boot: oo
    • book: ou
    • boy: oi/oy
    • dirt: hard. could be kept separate (dirt, fern, fur) for the Scottish and others, and for twins like hear (-> here or heer) and heard (-> herd or hurd). Otherwise could edwrite as ur, ir, or yr. yr may be best owing to twins like Sirius/serious and hurry/furry.
    • blew: eu/ew (hue -> hew too)
    • cute: (loanwords only) eu/ew or ü (cute -> keut or küte, but blue -> blew)
    • happy: y (eretidely short i at end of word. blives in manyfold shape: bunny, bunnys)
    • marry, merry, mary: same
    • beer, hour, fire: bere/beer, ure/uer, fire/fier
    • bard: bard or baard. If the first, hard to foretell in longer words. Same for bald and bald or baald.
    • cord: kord or koerd. Works with the horse/hoarse (maybe -> hors, hoers) melding oddly, too. Some of the hardest things to set right. Hold vs hollow alike too.

Clipols at the ends of words are always long (be, no, to/do (will be 2 words flouting the laws, and maybe ho for who), bi (by - but pie and other less meanly words can blive with longer spellings), but ma/pa for maa/paa, say for say, hu for how maybe), but can be written long anyway. It would be mightsome to keep threesomes like "vane/vain/vein" and twins like "toe/tow" unsplit, since some folktungs seem to keep them apart and their outspeaking would still be foretellsome.

MidclinksEdit

Easier to mend. Wisly cast out soft g and soft c, beyond that a few choosings. Some endings like the manyfold (-s) could be made unwending (if it's wanted to keep apart flees and fleece, -ss could be kept).

  • Same
    • bat - b
    • din - d
    • fin - f
    • gum - g (hard only: guess -> ges)
    • hat - h
    • kin - k
    • let - l
    • mom - m
    • not - n
    • pit - p
    • red - r
    • sad - s
    • tin - t
    • vat - v
    • win - w
    • zoom - z
  • Sundry
    • yes - j or y both worksome. J more Theedish, but Y more near to us. The yes, just layout is sorely French, but not inbornly bad.
    • just (mostly (only?) in loanwords, if not spelled dg) - dg (already brooked in some befalls), cg (in OE), and j seem most worksome. J if Y for IPA /j/, likely.
    • chin - ch (the running way), c (with all /k/ going to k), tk (likened from dg) worksome. C could be kept for Latin loanwords, thringing this to ch.
    • thin - th or þ. Twostaffs (digraphs) for throw wrenches in the twin midclink layout, and þ was only lost owing to thrickers, so þ seems better.
    • then - dh or ð. Fair to sunder þ and ð (and s and z) if f and v are sundered. Another choosing is to stop brooking v, but I find that a worse way.
    • shin - sh or x (freed up with x -> ks and gz) - brooking x for sh is seen in Basque, and the staff is free. But may not be worth it.
      • With Y blending (yod coalescence), could be spelled as sy/si/se. Helps with keeping away ugliness with long clipols before sh, though that happens mostly in loanwords - observaishon vs observasion, etc. Also bewharves (applies) to zh (-> zy/zi/ze).
    • vision (mostly (only?) in loanwords) - zh or q (owing to its unbrooking otherwise).
    • what - likely hw, but wh or w also worksome.
    • ugh - edgely clink. Keeping gh or changing to kh or ch seem choosesome. Other gh words don't need to lose their gh, as long as their clipols are mended. H may not be best as it could be brooked to allow short clipols at the ends of words.
    • kn- -> n, gn- -> n, wr -> r, mb -> m foretellsome from spelling so they don't have high ranks for mending.
    • singer and linger: Both only ng, for the Northern English and since the g-dropping is mostly foretellsome.
